The current report assesses the situation of children and the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in the Republic of Azerbaijan covering the period 2006-2010. It also identifies the changes that occurred since 2006, when the Concluding Observations of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child were adopted, following examination of the Second Periodic Report submitted by the Republic of Azerbaijan on the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).
The “Azerbaijan Child Helpline” service, launched in 2009, become one of the most successful projects initiated and driven by the Azerbaijan NGO Alliance for Children’s Rights and Reliable Future Youth Organization and implemented in cooperation with the government, the business sector, UNICEF and international NGOs (World Vision Azerbaijan and Save the Children). The main purpose of the service is to provide psychological and emotional support to every child that needs care and protection, who faces violence or any other kind of problems. This service, including two mobile numbers, three city lines, an e-mail service and an internet site, is available to both vulnerable children and adults who seek solutions for children’s problems.
